Dual-Language Teaching Model
Our intention will be to teach through Welsh and English 50/50 on average.
AOLE - Area of Learning and Experience
Children who start at the school ie From Nursery/Reception will use CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) pedagogy following the context to create real thematic experiences for the pupils.
Nursery
Nursery - 1st Language
AOLE - Language, Literacy and Communication
It will be important to learn both languages and to give exactly the same time to both languages from the start.
From Nursery - Year 1 It will be necessary to consider the needs of the children as they start school e.g. pupils who cannot speak English.
English/Welsh - The pupils will receive lessons in both languages.
AOLE - Mathematics and Numeracy (English but able to learn to count in Welsh and counting rhymes as a means of gradually introducing the Welsh language).
AOLE - Science and Technology (English but able to learn to use a few words in Welsh as a means of gradually introducing the Welsh language).
AOLE - Health and Wellbeing (There will be elements in both languages focusing on the theme or lesson itself)

ONE CHANGE - IF A CHILD WANTS TO FOCUS ON THE WELSH TO TRANSFER TO A WELSH MEDIUM HIGH SCHOOL, THEY WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO RECEIVE IMMERSION LESSONS. IN YEAR 6 THESE CHILDREN WILL BE ABLE TO ACCESS THE LESSONS IN THE WELSH MEDIUM STREAM.

Everyday Processes:
- Language of the Day - Welsh and English will alternate
- School Assembly - Welsh with an element of English
- Dual Language Assemblies - Welsh / English
- The children will often hear Welsh music
- All the staff will be fluent in Welsh so based on which language the children will hear, Welsh will be the main language of the school's adults.
- School displays will be bilingual i.e. There is no need to keep to only one language when displaying pupils' work
